PHOENIX 10 STATION WEAR

The 10-station parallel wear generator is a prototype instrument we have designed to increase our testing efficiency drastically.

The testing conditions of this new multistation system are more flexible than those of the 50-station machine. Test specimens can be more versatile, and speed as well as heating and lubricating are more flexible.

 Standards and methods

The concept is a rod-on-specimen configuration, whereby the rods can be either a standard 'countermaterial' to evalute the wear of 10 individual specimens, or alternatively, the rod can be the object of testing : a coating, surface treatment or new alloy. In that case, the rod is tested against standard countermaterials.

10 pneumatically loaded station all apply the same pressure, but can be disengaged in pairs so that a variation of cycles is possible.

Contacts can be point (crossed cylinders), line (flat on cylinder) or area (conformal block on cylinder). Heating and lubrication are integrated. An 3-body sand abrasion option is being considered.

Typical results are wear evolution and wear comparison with statistical information.
